FWC to host Florida State Fish Art Contest

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), in partnership with Wildlife Forever, will host the Florida State Fish Art Contest again this year. Students in kindergarten through 12th grade can compete in this free contest for a chance to win state and national honors, and prizes.

Fishing forecast is bleak the next few days

The first weekend of November looks set to be our first strong nor’easter of the season. The forecast is bleak for anglers the next few days. With winds gusting over 30 and a building swell, there won’t be many pleasant or productive options to wet a line. Off shore is a hard pass this weekend.

Red Bull Night Riders competition returns

The Red Bull Night Riders will return to the pier from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday in Jacksonville Beach. Last year’s winner, Cody Thompson of Jacksonville Beach, is defending his title in the annual event that has quickly become one of the premier surfing contests on the East Coast.

Kurtis Loftus reaches surfing goal of more than 600 consecutive waves

Under clear blue skies, Kurtis Loftus reclaimed the world record Oct. 26, catching more than 600 consecutive waves to raise money for Deck the Chairs in Jacksonville Beach. Loftus, 60, embarked on his quest at 7 a.m. Oct. 25, officially breaking the world record at 3 a.m.
