Famous Toastery to open in Jacksonville Beach

Famous Toastery is set to open June 17 at 311 N. 3rd St. Starting in 2005 in Huntersville, N.C., the Famous Toastery demand continued to grow, evolving into a franchise system in 2013.

Annual scholarship honors the 'Spirit of Spez'

The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida and Ponte Vedra High School have announced William O’Hara as the 2016 recipient of the Craig Speziale Memorial Scholarship. Speziale, the founding principal of PVHS, served from 2007 until his passing in April 2014.

BRASS sets fund-raising record

Beaches Residents Actively Supporting the Symphony (BRASS) has raised $130,000 at the end of its 25th year, setting a new fund-raising record for the organization.

Theatre on a Mission to host murder mystery

Theatre on a Mission (TOM) will host a Murder Mystery Musical at the Alhambra Theatre and Dining on Monday, June 20, at 7:30 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the non-profit group's trip to Kenya in July.

Free shuttle to run at Mickler's for holiday weekends

With the demand of off-beach parking expected to exceed capacity during the holidays this summer, St. Johns County is offering a free shuttle service to Mickler's Beachfront Park and the St. Johns County Ocean and Fishing Pier from July 2 to July 4 for Independence Day, and from Sept.

Patsy Bishop awarded for 30 years service

The Beaches Town Center Agency and the Dancin' in the Street committee presented event director Patsy Bishop with a gift for her 30 years of service to the community and to the annual festival. Neptune Beach Mayor Harriet Pruette proclaimed official Patsy Bishop Day.

'Decades Rewind' coming to Terry Theater

"Decades Rewind: A Tribute to an Era" is coming to the Times-Union Center's Terry Theater Friday and Saturday, June 3 and 4. An eight-piece band with six vocalists will perform medleys of popular music from the '60s, '70s and '80s, including more than 60 well-known songs.

Outdoor sales get 'no' in Jacksonville Beach

The Jacksonville Beach Planning Commission voted May 23 not to allow the display and sale of outdoor merchandise at Home Depot in the South Beach Regional Shopping Center. The city council will be the final decision maker, however, on June 6.

Beaches Episcopal School recognizes alumni

Beaches Episcopal School alumna Amanda McCawley has been named valedictorian at the Episcopal School of Jacksonville for the 2015-2016 year. McCawley finished the school year with a 4.45 grade point average, and will attend Duke University in the fall.
