Neptune Beach to mark 85 years

The city of Neptune Beach will celebrate 85 years and observe National Night Out on Saturday, Oct. 22, at Jarboe Park, located on 5th Street in Neptune Beach. The free program will be held from noon to 6 p.m.

Get out and have some Halloween fun

The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens, 370 Zoo Pkwy., Jacksonville, will host its annual “Spooktacular” Friday through Sunday, Oct. 21 through Oct. 23, and Thursday through Monday, Oct. 27 through Oct. 31. Hours are 6:30 to 10 p.m., with gates closing at 9 p.m.

Man drowns in ocean off Atlantic Beach

On Saturday afternoon, a 38-year-old man standing in the ocean in Atlantic Beach was knocked down by a runout and did not resurface.  According to reports, a family friend struggled unsuccessfully to get him.

Lemon Bar hosting luau for charity

The 11th annual Lemon Bar Luau will be held Saturday, with proceeds to benefit the Beaches Resource Center for children and families at the Beaches. The event will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $30 per person in advance or $40 at the door. The Lemon Bar is located at 120 Atlantic Blvd.

Coalition meeting will focus on storm aftermath

The Ponte Vedra Beaches Coalition will meet Monday, Oct. 24, to discuss the recent storm, power outages, the aftermath and what the community can do to help improve the service and clean up.

Jacksonville council considers emergency funding to fix dunes

Dune restoration at the Beaches could be done in tandem with the ongoing shore protection project if the Jacksonville City Council approves emergency legislation that will be introduced Tuesday.

MSD to meet with St. Johns County on aftermath of storm

As a result of the severe damage to dunes and seawalls, the Municipal Service District of Ponte Vedra Beach has scheduled a meeting with St. Johns County for Oct. 24 to discuss storm aftermath and beach restoration.
