Jacksonville Beach postpones fireworks

There will be no rockets red glare this Fourth of July in Jacksonville Beach. Although there was no official action taken, it was the overwhelming consensus among city officials to postpone a fireworks display until Labor Day or New Year’s Eve.

New Jacksonville Beach lifeguard recruit class starts

A new recruit class for Jacksonville Beach lifeguards will start Friday, June 19, at 9 a.m. The orientation meeting will be held at the lifeguard station located at the oceanfront end of Beach Boulevard. Applicants for the recruit class must be 15 years of age or older.

Ponte Vedra High student earns award for volunteering

On April 28, The Florida Department of Education awarded Chase Magnano, a senior at Ponte Vedra High School (PVHS), the Youth Outstanding School Volunteer Award for PVHS, St. Johns County and Region II of Florida (12-county region in North-Northeast Florida).

1,000 people take part in 'Beaches Display of Unity'

A large and peaceful protest was held at the Seawalk Pavilion June 4 with about 1,000 people present for the “Beaches Display of Unity.” Organizers had the event set up to allow attendees to sit in a circle to “show unity,” while speakers were able to stand and speak in the middle.

Girl Scouts reimagine summer camp

Girl Scouts of Gateway Council (GSGC) announces it has launched a reimagined summer camp program aimed at helping girls continue learning and growing despite COVID-19 restrictions. As a community service, GSGC has opened the program to nonmember girls in the community.

Beaches library offering curbside services

Library services are now available curbside at the Neptune Beach branch. A pilot program initiated by the Jacksonville Public Library offers curbside pickup from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday for books, movies and CDs by appointment at nine locations ,including the Beaches branch.

Furever Friends

It's kitten season and it's raining kittens at The Caffeinated Cat Cafe. These are just two kittens that are waiting for their "forever" homes.  Spice is a playful little boy who is 2 months old, neutered and up to date on his shots.
