Favorable days ahead for getting on the water

The next few days are looking like a favorable window for getting out on the water. The winds should back off for Friday and Saturday, while there will be some lingering groundswell. The long period should make it nice to get off shore, too.

FWC to meet Feb. 21-22 in Tallahassee

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) will meet in person Feb. 21 and 22 at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center, Meeting Room A, 505 W. Pensacola St., Tallahassee. The meeting begins at 8:30 a.m. each day and is open to the public.

Recreational harvest of snook for most of Florida’s East Coast opens Feb. 1

The recreational harvest of snook in Florida's Northeast, Indian River Lagoon and Southeast management regions will open Feb. 1 and remain open through May 31. This includes all Florida state and inland waters, as well as adjacent federal waters within each management region.

Weekend on the water should be excellent

After a blast of cold air, the warm-up this week should make for an excellent weekend on the water. This is the time of year when low water temps inshore can really shut down the fishing, but a few days in the 70s is a feeding bell that all the inshore species will hear ringing.
