Cummer museum closes

Due to Hurricane Matthew, the Cummer Museum will be closed Thursday and Friday, Oct. 6 and 7. Updates on when the museum will reopen will be posted on Cummer's Facebook page and website.

Mayport Road development is proposed

On Sept. 26, Atlantic Beach City Commissioners discussed whether the city should move forward with a redevelopment plan for the Mayport Road corridor but no decision was made.

Review of Jacksonville Beach's event policy due shortly

An independent review of Jacksonville Beach’s special events policies is expected to be complete in a few weeks. City Attorney Susan Erdelyi said recenlty that the review is being done by local attorney John Dickinson.

Beaches Art Fest to showcase juried work

The Beaches Museum and History Park, along with Driftwood Jacksonville Beach, will host the 3rd Annual Beaches Art Fest this weekend on Oct. 1 and 2. The festival, which is produced by Holiday Art Shows of St.

Holly Hill's Carolyn Flynn wins poster contest

Carolyn Flynn of Holly Hill, Fla., won the 2016 Beaches Art Fest Poster Contest with her entry “Paradise.” Flynn is known for her colorful, whimsical designs inspired by nature. The contest judges felt that her entry “captured the essence of the event and the coastal community.

The Palm Valley Community Center has received a gift of landscaping of the Community Center grounds from Kathy's Creative Gardens and Nursery, located at 196 North Roscoe Boulevard.

Congressional candidates to speak

Beaches Watch will host a meet-and-greet with the Congressional District 4 candidates on the general election ballot on Wednesday, Oct. 5. The meet-and-greet is open to the public, and will give voters the opportunity to meet and learn about the candidates prior to the general election.
