Old Dixie Highway sidewalk installation begins

St. Johns County began installing a new sidewalk on Old Dixie Highway between Walden Chase Lane and Nease High School Sept. 14. The 900-foot sidewalk project is scheduled to be finished in November, and will provide pedestrian access to Nease High School when complete.

Atlantic Beach commission considering permanent position for interim police chief

After filling in as interim police chief, city staff will recommend that Victor Gualillo be named police chief of Atlantic Beach. Former police chief Michelle Cook announced in January that she was running for the sheriff’s office in Clay County.  Cook defeated incumbent Darryl Daniels in the Aug.

St. Johns County Public Libraries introducing evening hours

The St. Johns County Public Library System is introducing evening hours at all facilities to accommodate the needs of working families and students beginning Tuesday, Sept. 15. The Main Branch, Ponte Vedra Beach Branch and Southeast Branch libraries will be open from 2 to 7 p.m.

Ocean Palms recognized by state for innovation

On Aug. 4, Ocean Palms Elementary School was recognized as the Florida Department of Education’s 2019-2020 winner of the Family and Community Involvement Award in the elementary category for region II. This is the highest award presented by the State Department of Education.
