Atlantic Beach land development regulations are being amended

Atlantic Beach officials are moving forward with amendments to the city’s land development regulations despite pleas from residents to defer changes that could impact the Stormwater Master Plan. Dozens of residents spoke out against the proposed changes during a recent City Commission meeting.

New program designed to boost safety in Downtown Jacksonville Beach

A new initiative will provide additional safety measures for businesses in downtown Jacksonville Beach. The Community Redevelopment Agency drafted a safety grant program to bolster safety and create a secure environment in the downtown district.

Public asked to stay off roads in St. Johns County

Following Hurricane Milton, St. Johns County is urging the public to stay off the roads as crews conduct damage assessments across the community. Residents are encouraged to refrain from non-emergency travel until damage assessments are complete.

St. Johns County urges public to save unused sandbags

St. Johns County urges the public to save sandbags that did not come into contact with floodwater. These sandbags may be useful for future storms (as a reminder, the Atlantic hurricane season runs until Nov. 30). The public may dispose of any unwanted sand by scattering it in their yard.

Jacksonville's Thursday trash pickup suspended

Jacksonville will keep solid waste pickup on schedule as long as it is safe to do so Wednesday, Oct. 9. All Thursday solid waste collections (garbage, recycling and yard waste) are suspended.   Thursday collection for garbage and recycling will be rescheduled to Saturday.

Jacksonville opens shelters

The following shelters will be open for those needing refuge from the storm beginning at 8 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 9. Arlington Middle School (8141 Lone Star Rd), open for general population. Atlantic Coast High School (9735 R. G. Skinner Parkway), open for special medical needs, pet friendly.

St. Johns County updates residential solid waste collection schedule due to hurricane

In response to impending weather conditions in St. Johns County, resources typically dedicated to recycling will be redirected to enhance yard waste collection services during the storm.

Mandatory evacuation order issued for St. Johns County residents

St. Johns County has issued a mandatory evacuation order for all residents and visitors in Evacuation Zone A (along coastal and river areas), Zone B and Zone F (south of State Road 206) effective at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, due to the imminent threat posed by Hurricane Milton.

St. Johns County has issued a mandatory evacuation order for all healthcare facilities located in Evacuation Zones A, B and F (south of State Road 206) effective 2 p.m.Tuesday, Oct. 8.
