Ferry back in service

The St. Johns River Ferry is back in service after closing at the beginning of the year for a nearly $2 million scheduled inspection and overhaul, required periodically by the U.S. Coast Guard.

PVHS collecting prom dress clothes

Ponte Vedra High School is holding a prom dress drive for Best Buddies and is collecting prom dresses, jewelry, shoes for girls, and shirts, ties and dress pants for boys. All sizes are needed. PVHS students may drop off donations to Mrs.

RITA donation

The RITA (Research Is The Answer) Foundation has donated $30,000 to the SenioRITAs at Sawgrass Cancer Endowment Fund through the Baptist Health Foundation.

Coastal Cleanup set

Volunteers are needed for the 8th annual Coastal Cleanup on Saturday, March 19, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Mike McCue Boat Ramp, located at 2510 2nd Ave. N. Volunteers can bring kayaks or canoes to help clean the waterways.

Grafting plants at home easier than you think

Growing tomatoes, at least the varieties with the highest impact in flavor and production with which I was most familiar early in my life, has been more challenging for me since moving to our beach community. Some varieties are simply not well-suited for our soil and environmental conditions.

Beach access traffic in Atlantic Beach under review

The Atlantic Beach City Commission will discuss traffic volumes in the area of the 10th Street beach access during Monday’s meeting, with recommendations for solutions to be determined no later than May 1.

Daylight saving time starts Sunday

Turn the clocks forward one hour on Sunday at 2 a.m. Sunday marks the beginning of Daylight saving time, which means changes in watering restrictions will become effective. The hours of irrigation will remain before 10 a.m. and after 4 p.m.; however, watering will be increased to two days per week.

Atlantic Beach looks for fix for floods

A request to reevaluate the city’s storm-water control system and develop a contingency plan to prevent flooding during peak rainfall events will be discussed during Monday’s Atlantic Beach Commission meeting.
