Ponte Vedra High girls soccer finds itself in a familiar position this week: Playing in the Class 3A semifinals with a chance to advance to tonight’s state championship game.

'Friends' exhibit open at J. Johnson

A diverse group exhibition, featuring prints, painting, photography and sculpture by a variety of artists who have exhibited with the J. Johnson Gallery over the past 15 years, is open at 177 4th Ave. N. A reception for “Friends,” which, will be on display through March 17, will be held from 6-8 p.

Fletcher High’s Dylan Speckman completes Ironman triathlon

On Jan. 9, Dylan Speckman, a junior AICE honor student at Fletcher High, finished his first Ironman distance triathlon in Naples. He placed first in his age group (22 & under) with a time of 15 hours, 3 minutes, 35 seconds and was the youngest competitor in the event of more than 70 participants.

JBBA registration open for spring baseball season

Registration is now open for the Jacksonville Beach Baseball Association’s 2016 spring baseball season. JBBA is located at Wingate Park (361 Penman Road S.) and offers baseball to all children ages 4-16. The cost is $120 per player, which includes a full uniform. The season will run from Feb.

Upward Flag Football registration under way

Registration for Upward Flag Football league and cheerleading in Jax Beach is currently under way. Practices begin Sunday, Feb. 14, at 1:30 p.m. at San Pablo Elementary School fields next to Fletcher High School. Season takes place from Feb. 28 through May 1 every Sunday except for Easter.

Weather is fickle but some nice catches

Captain Dave Sipler's Sport Fishing had John Forhand and son Chase aboard the Jettywolf Jan. 23 for a day of "float-rig fishing" with live shrimp. The duo caught 15 speckled trout from 15 to 19 inches, a pair of three-pound sheepshead, a 14-inch flounder, a 23-inch redfish and a 13-inch croaker.
