Senators upend Sharks on the mat

In a dual meet Feb. 2 at Ponte Vedra High, Fletcher High’s wrestling team earned a 43-18 victory. At 106 pounds, Fletcher’s Brandon Cuevas pinned Gavin Riccobono 1:35 into the match. Senators wrestler Trent Daldorf earned a 14-0 major decision over Bryan Reed in their 113-pound bout.

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville Armada FC added another level to its developmental structure recently with the announcement of the new Armada U-23 squad, which will compete in the National Premier Soccer League.

At its Feb. 10 meeting at the Florida Public Safety Institute near Tallahassee, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) approved changes to the gag and black grouper minimum size limit and the gag grouper recreational season in Gulf state waters.

Voice to perform at St. Paul's by-the-Sea

The Beaches Fine Arts Series presents the British a cappella trio Voice on Friday at St. Paul’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Jacksonville Beach. The 7:30 p.m. concert is free and open to the public. Seating is on a first-come basis.

Despite an early 9-0 deficit to begin Feb. 5’s District 5-5A title game, the host Sharks came roaring back in the second half en route to a decisive 60-52 victory.

Blues guitarist coming to museum chapel

Texas blues guitarist Jim Suhler makes a return engagement to the Beaches Museum Chapel at 7 p.m. today. Tickets are $25 at the door. Food and refreshments kick off at 6 p.m. with a barbecue dinner on the chapel patio provided by MoJo’s Kitchen. A donation of $10 is suggested.

PV girls fall in state title game

MELBOURNE — For 66 minutes Feb. 4, Ponte Vedra and Plantation American Heritage were locked in a scoreless defensive battle to decide the Class 3A girls soccer state champion.

Ponte Vedra boys advance to soccer championships

After being knocked out of the playoffs by the Green Indians in the same round last season, the Sharks gained a measure of revenge against host Choctawhatchee in last Friday night’s regional championship game with a 4-0 victory.

Upward Flag Football registration under way

Registration for Upward Flag Football league and cheerleading in Jax Beach is currently under way. Practices begin Sunday, Feb. 14 at 1:30 p.m. at San Pablo Elementary School fields next to Fletcher High School. Season takes place from Feb. 28 through May 1 every Sunday except for Easter.
