Concerned parents and city officials are pushing back against a proposed plan to shutter three beaches elementary schools. The Duval County School Board sent shock waves through the community, announcing a proposal to close three neighborhood schools.

Kiwanis Club recognizes Fleet Heart service club

The Fleet Heart service club created by Fleet Landing residents recently received a Certificate of Appreciation for its support of the Beaches Kiwanis Club's Charity Concert. The Fleet Heart club provides service and support to the local community, and supports the needs of Fleet Landing.

Atlantic Beach conducting survey for former retirement center

Atlantic Beach officials are seeking input from residents to identify potential uses for the Gail Baker Community Center at Donner Park, which is scheduled for renovation. The city received $500,000 in funding from the city of Jacksonville to complete the improvements.

A new art installation is creating a sense of place in Neptune Beach. The east side of the city’s water tower was recently emblazoned with the Fletcher High School logo and the phrase “This is Fletcher Country.

Improvements in Atlantic Beach may help with parking

Improvements are underway to connect a block of Ahern Street from East Coat to Ocean Boulevard in Atlantic Beach. The work will also help eliminate parking issues between the city’s paid parking program and paid parking on private lots like the Ragtime lot.
