Kiwanis host Sulzbacher children

The Beaches Kiwanis Club hosted a group of future leaders from Sulzbacher Village at a Jumbo Shrimp baseball game May 30. The kids got to have their names announced and run out onto the field along with the players for the National Anthem as part of a Jumbo Shrimp Stars of Tomorrow promotion.

Johnston Island plans proceed

An ordinance that would bring restaurants, floating docks/marinas, a passive park and more to Johnston Island will move forward for a second read after June 10's discussion by the Atlantic Beach Commission.

PV Woman's Club exceeds goals

The Ponte Vedra Woman's Club met and exceeded all of their goals through fund-raising during the 2018-2019 fiscal year, therefore the club’s scholarship amount was doubled to $5,000 for recipient Kilmaried Janet Muniz Rivera.

Sexual battery in Jacksonville Beach reported

A woman was reportedly sexually assaulted in a downtown Jacksonville Beach alley on May 25 at about  2 a.m. According to an incident report, the victim said she came to the beach at about 12:30 a.m. with a friend, visited three bars and drank one beer.

Lightning warning system up and running in Atlantic Beach

As many of Atlantic Beach residents learned first-hand recently, the city’s lightning prediction system is up and running. The system is designed to alert residents and visitors on and near the beach that lightning is imminent in the area.

Even gators like to surf

A surprised beachgoer found a three-foot alligator in the surf at 5th Avenue South in Jacksonville Beach June 1. Ocean rescue called the city's animal control and the gator was removed and transferred to Fish and Wildlife Commission officials. Alligators are not salt water animals.

St. Johns County urges residents and businesses to conserve water

Water demands have dramatically increased throughout St. Johns County due to a recent lack of rainfall and historically high temperatures. St. Johns County Utilities is urging customers to help conserve water by observing mandatory irrigation schedules and reducing water usage whenever possible.
