The Mammoglams, a Jacksonville Dragon Boat Club (JDBC) team of breast cancer survivors, participated in the Mount Dora Paddle Fest June 1, bringing home the gold medal.
After a brief rain delay, the team of 10 took to the water to paddle the 380-meter race distance for three heats. The Mammoglams accumulated times of 2:10.70, 2:08.16 and 2:15. Along with several gold medals, the team was awarded a Trophy Paddle. JDBC collected three more gold medals in addition to the Mammoglams' medal, earned by the Premier Women, Open 10 and Premier Mixed.
The team will head next to Beaufort, S.C. The competitive group's mission is to introduce Dragon Boating to Jacksonville and the surrounding areas to promote healthy lifestyles and life-long physical fitness. Their motto is, “We’ve won the battle … now let’s paddle!”
