George H. (Bud) Kimball, 82, died on February 11, 2016 after a long decline due to Progressive Primary Aphasia and Alzheimer’s disease. Bud and his wife Evelyn (Evie) had recently celebrated their 60 anniversary.
Bud was born in Pontiac, MI, to the late George and Marcelyn Kimball, and enjoyed his childhood in lakefront homes, which prompted his lifelong love of the water and boating. Bud was a graduate of the School of Building Construction at the University of Florida, after transferring from Michigan State University. He was an active member of Sigma Chi fraternity at both schools and was a true Gator fan. His career centered primarily on building as Kimball Construction Company, but he also was an oil jobber, first with the now defunct Pure Oil Company and later Exxon. Bud and Evie traveled extensively, but sailing was always their first love, and they cruised in the Caribbean for seven years, later switching to a trawler for more local adventures in Florida and up the Intracoastal Waterway.
In addition to his wife, Bud is survived by a sister, Carolyn Milford of Charlotte, NC, and predeceased by a sister, Gwendolyn Cartwright Wingert. He was the proud parent of four successful children: Kim Shine of Jacksonville Beach, FL, Janet Kimball Garrett (George) of Oakland, CA, David Kimball (Judy) of Annapolis, MD, and Sandra Kimball Aldrich (Jon) of Naples, FL. Grandchildren and extended family include Leah Garrett, Caitlin Garrett, Kane Aldrich, Sarah Perry (Jim) and Anna, Jamie Shine (Lisa) and Juliet, Stuart Shine, Kimberly Morrell (Ed), Jason Aldrich and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Private services were held on February 14, 2016 at Ponte Vedra Valley Chapel with Father Michael Larkin (retired) Officiating. A celebration of Bud’s life followed at Casa Marina.
