Heather Elizabeth Sutton, known as Beth, died unexpectedly in her sleep on Monday, October 2nd. She was 45 years old. She died in her home in Atlantic Beach, FL.
She was born on February 1st, 1972 in Rock Hill, SC to her parents, Sherrill Helms Sutton and Heath Wilson Sutton. She moved with her family to Jacksonville Beach in 1978.
Beth graduated from Fletcher High School in 1990 as the valedictorian. She was the yearbook editor and won numerous scholarships, writing contests, and awards. While in high school, she won a trip to Ireland by winning the Florida Times Union short story contest. She had a love for learning and reading. She attended Duke University for her first two years of college and finished her Bachelor’s degree in Literature at the University of North Florida in 1994.
Beth worked for Publix and Citistreet. Most recently, her job was caretaker for her mother.
Beth had a very strong love for her country. She also loved her Sunday School Class at Neptune Baptist Church. She will be sorely missed by family and friends.
She is survived by her mother, Sherrill Sutton, her father, Wilson Sutton, her sisters, Stacie (Stephen) Carter and Becky (Ari) Zelanko. She was also survived by her aunt, Phyllis Lowder, her nephew, Travis Carter, and her nieces, Madeline Carter, Olivia Zelanko, and Caroline Zelanko. She is predeceased by her uncle, James Lowder and her grandparents, Stacy Helms, Cornelia Helms, Heath Sutton and Evelyn Sutton.
The services will be at Neptune Baptist Church in Neptune Beach on Saturday, October 7. The viewing will be at 1:30pm and the funeral will be at 2pm. Immediately following the funeral will be the burial at Beaches Memorial Park in Atlantic Beach. After the burial, a reception will be held at Neptune Baptist Church.
