Water management district offices reopen as damage assessments begin

Hurricane Idalia quickly made its way across the state Aug. 30, leaving minimal damage across the St. Johns River Water Management District’s 18-county region.
Here is a summary of the District’s current status of operations:
    •    The District’s headquarters in Palatka and service centers in Palm Bay, Apopka and Jacksonville will reopen at 8 a.m. Aug. 31.
    •    Navigation through the Burrell Lock, Moss Bluff Lock, and the Apopka Lock and Dam will be permitted beginning at sunrise Aug. 31.
    •    District properties remain closed to ensure public safety. However, staff will begin damage assessments Aug. 31, and anticipate opening lands as soon as that afternoon.
