In response to record-breaking temperatures this past week, and an excessive heat warning in effect, the Salvation Army of Northeast Florida Area Command will open its doors as a cooling station, Sunday, Aug. 13, from noon to 6 p.m. at 328 N. Ocean St., Jacksonville, 32202.
The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department will donate bottled water, and American Red Cross volunteers will assist with passing them out.
Salvation Army of Northeast Florida Area Commander Maj. Keath Biggers commented, “We are grateful to our local fire department for their generous donation of waters, and to the American Red Cross for volunteering their time on the Lord’s Day to help those in need stay safe during this oppressive heat wave.”
