The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced July 16 that Northeast Florida Community Veterans Engagement Board (NE-FL CVEB) will launch the first Virtual Veterans Experience Action Center (V-VEAC) July 29 through 31 to assist Veterans on VA benefits, healthcare and other services.
The V-VEAC plans on assisting more than 500 hard-to-reach veterans, such as women, homeless and elderly, in order to evaluate and remedy issues during this one-on-one virtual engagement. The V-VEAC includes VA, NE-FL CVEB, and community service and support resource organizations with the capability to file, update and adjudicate claims; enroll in VA healthcare and schedule appointments; provide rapid housing and temporary financial assistance; and other holistic support actions.
“We are pleased to partner with the VA to offer expanded assistance to veterans experiencing homelessness or those who are at high risk,” said retired Brigadier Gen. Michael Fleming, co-chair, Northeast Florida Community Veterans Engagement Board.
The partnership with the department’s St. Petersburg Regional Benefits Office, North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System, Jacksonville National Cemetery and Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs (FDVA) will provide direct access for veterans to answer their concerns regarding:
• VA claims and appeals status and filing
• VA healthcare eligibility and enrollment
• Burial eligibility and pre-need registration
• VA and Florida state veterans benefits assistance
The Northeast Florida V-VEAC is a locally-based, virtual event in which the regional veterans, family members, caregivers and survivors can be seamlessly connected to the full range of VA and community-based services and resources while focusing on a person-centered approach.
Veterans who register will be given the choice of available times for their request for assistance. An agent or representative will contact the veteran during that time period to provide personalized assistance as needed.
Veterans are encouraged to register by July 27 for this space-limited event at booknow.appointment-plus.com/ch422seq or contact United Way 211 by dialing 2-1-1 or 904-632-0600 Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
