The Women’s Center of Jacksonville, Hubbard House and ElderSource are ensuring citizens of Northeast Florida know how to get help from sexual, domestic or elder abuse as the COVID-19 outbreak continues.
“During this difficult time, we are sadly already seeing an increase in the numbers of sexual assaults as people shelter in place,” said Teresa Miles, executive director of Women’s Center of Jacksonville. “We do not want people to forgo seeking help because they are afraid of going to a hospital during the coronavirus outbreak. All three of our organizations remain open during the pandemic and continue treating or supporting abuse survivors.”
If you are a survivor of sexual assault, you can call the Women’s Center of Jacksonville’s 24-hour rape crisis hotline at 904-721-7273.
If you are a survivor of domestic abuse, you can call the Hubbard House 24-hour hotline at 904-354-3114.
To report elder abuse, call 1-880-96-ELDER. If you are a survivor of elder abuse, you can call the ElderSource HelpLine at 1-888-242-4464 for information and resources to support your recovery.
“During this pandemic, we are here for survivors of domestic violence as we have been for 44 years. Our 24/7 hotline remains available and is staffed with experienced advocates who can help survivors by providing support, helping plan for safety and making referrals for shelter and services. Survivors, you are not alone,” said Hubbard House Chief Executive Officer Dr. Gail A. Patin, LCSW.
“Older adults are more susceptible to exploitation during this time when physical distancing is mandated,” said ElderSource Chief Executive Officer Linda Levin. “Seniors can experience not only financial or sexual exploitation, but they can also suffer from depression and other ailments because of this prolonged social disconnect. ElderSource is here to support seniors and caregivers by offering many critical resources. While we are all working to physically distance from each other during this time, older adults are particularly being impacted by the prolonged social disconnect.”
All three hotline numbers continue to be available during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
