The Ponte Vedra High School Cross Country team competed at the 2019 Florida High School Cross Country State Championship Nov. 9 at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee. The boys placed fourth and the girls placed 11th.
Junior Lucas Bouquot earned his way to the podium with a 12th-place individual finish, and 11th place in team results. Senior Cameron Heinz, in his last PV cross country race ever, finished in 30th place, followed by senior Kyle Reinheimer in 34th and freshman Grant Doherty in 36th place. Sam Swartz rounded out the top five with a 59th-place finish. The final scoring contributors were Colin Lytle in 95th and Josh Cills in 135th place.
"Our boys raced like champions on a day and race filled with like-minded champions," said coach Rob Circelli.
The girls were led by junior Lauren Bing (29th), junior Gab Berardi (34th), junior Stella Knehans (75th), freshman Tori Balser (83rd), senior Kaylen McMullin (92nd), junior Lucy Morfit (108th) and junior Trish Balser (150th).
"The duo of Bing-Berardi led our team in a courageous mile one and to the finish line," added Circelli.
