Southern pine beetle infestation impacting St. Johns County forests

Forests throughout Florida and St. Johns County are currently experiencing southern pine beetle infestations that are severely affecting wooded areas near homes, businesses and other infrastructure. Approximately 178 infestations have been identified in Florida, 18 of which are in St. Johns County.

Southern pine beetles cause irreparable damage to heavily wooded areas and can only be removed by eliminating affected trees. Preventative sprays can be used to deter the pests from damaging surrounding trees.
