Solution sought for school-related traffic

The start of the school year means traffic snags in many areas, particularly at the start and end of the school day, as parents drop off and pick up students.
Lines of cars clogging area streets next to schools, particularly elementary, are common and administrators routinely caution parents not to block traffic.
In Atlantic Beach, through traffic on Sherry Drive is often a problem near Atlantic Beach Elementary Schoo.
At Aug. 12’s city commission meeting, Commissioner Cindy Anderson urged the police chief to talk to the school’s principal about a solution, explaining that cars clogging Sherry Drive create hazardous driving conditions.
Mayor Ellen Glasser said she had held a similar conversation previously but was told the situation was normal at schools. Anderson said it is time to try something new and asked the police chief to initiate action.
