Federal funds will add a second vessel to the St. Johns Ferry fleet. The Jacksonville Transportation Authority was recently awarded a $15.6 million federal grant for the purchase of an additional boat that will run on a hybrid mix of diesel and battery power. It is expected to launch in 2028 or 2029.
The hybrid diesel-electric power is designed to limit air pollution.
