Jeanell Wilson, owner and Realtor of All South Realty, Inc., has announced her candidacy for mayor of Jacksonville Beach.
After serving two terms on the city council, Wilson said she would like to continue her service to the community by serving as mayor. She said she is committed to maintaining the quality of life without increasing taxes or fees, reducing crime, making the downtown area more family-friendly, continuing live streaming and video projection of all city board meetings, promoting sensible growth without infringing on the rights of existing citizens, getting more citizen input, and finding the right balance between businesses and new regulations.
While serving on the city council and as mayor pro tem for four of the eight years, Wilson supported budgets that would keep spending in check without increasing property tax millage rates. She voted for budgets that would make the city debt-free and was instrumental in getting council meetings live-streamed and recorded, in addition to projecting the meeting agenda and supporting documents on a big screen for attendees to see. Wilson supported family-friendly events such as the monthly Art Walk, the Car Show, Opening of  the Beaches Parade, July 4th events and Deck The Chairs. She also voted for city park improvements such as the skateboard park and the Jacksonville Beach Golf Course improvements.
A concern for Wilson is maintaining the quality of life in the downtown area. The streets should be safe and walk-able for family and visitors, even after sunset, she said. She also said she would work more closely with the redevelopment agency by reviewing and updating the current plans and channeling resources available into improvement projects.
Wilson has been in the real estate business at the Beaches area for more than 40 years. She has served on numerous boards and offices including the Jacksonville Beach Redevelopment Agency, Jacksonville Planning Commission, chair of the Jacksonville Water and Sewer Expansion Authority, past chair of the Beaches Department of the Chamber of Commerce, past president of the Jacksonville Beaches Association of Realtors and the Multiple Listing Service.
Wilson is a graduate of the University of North Alabama with a bachelor's degree and earned her master’s degree from the University of Florida. She came to Jacksonville as a teacher in the Duval County School System, where she taught biology and science for several years before she opened her real estate office at Jacksonville Beach. Wilson was very involved with the Jacksonville Beach Pop Warner Football program and Little League baseball program when her son, Tyler Schnabel, was growing up and playing.
