Jacksonville Beach to update plans for downtown

The city of Jacksonville Beach will pay a consultant up to $30,000 to go through its plans for redevelopment and consolidate at least three prior proposals.
The Community Redevelopment Agency agreed Dec. 17 to have the work done by a firm rather than ask the city’s planning director to do the overview, as his work load would cause the project to take longer.
CRA members made it clear they want to move forward quickly and want the CRA to be effective in getting progress made on many goals to improve the downtown. Parking solutions, walkability and other factors could be included in the streamlined plan, CRA members said.
A few months ago, it was suggested that the city council could take over the agency’s duties.
CRA member Frances Povloski said she took those remarks personally.
“If the council feels they don’t need us, I want them to see there is value if they empower us,” Povloski said.
The CRA has authority to contract for services such as the planning review.
