FEMA offering assistance to St. Johns County individuals

Homeowners, renters and business owners in St. Johns County may apply for federal disaster assistance for uninsured and under-insured damages and losses resulting from Hurricane Matthew.
FEMA announced St. Johns as one of four counties statewide to be designated for individual assistance. To eligible for federal aid under FEMA's Individual Assistance Program, storm damage and losses from the hurricane and flooding must have occurred as a result of Hurricane Matthew, beginning Oct. 3.
Survivors are to contact their insurance company to file their insurance claim as FEMA is unable to duplicate insurance payments, however, those without insurance or those who may be under-insured may still receive help after their insurance claims have been settled.
To register with FEMA or for more information, visit www.disasterassistance.gov or call 800-621-3362. Toll-free numbers are open from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., seven days a week.
