Author wins award

Long-time Beaches resident Ginny Brinkley recently published her second novel, and has just been notified that it is an award winner.
"Goddess—A Child of the Sixties" tells the story of Annie, a woman who came of age in the 1960s, discovering the excitement of young love, then experiencing the heartbreak of separation when her boyfriend is sent to Vietnam. As she looks back and reminisces, Annie wonders if she will ever again experience such passion.
“It is a love story set in the tumultuous and war-torn culture of that iconic era,” Brinkley explained.
“Many of my college friends have accused the book of being autobiographical,” Brinkley continued, “but I maintain that the story is fiction. Some of these college mates even claim to have recognized themselves in the book. I like to think that adds credibility to the story. As one reviewer pointed out, ‘the theme of Goddess is timeless and will resonate with anyone who’s ever had a first love.’”
Brinkley was recently notified that "Goddess" had been chosen as a finalist by the 2019 Next Generation Indie Book Awards, the largest not-for-profit awards program for independent publishers. These awards were given out at a reception at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C., on June 27.
