Abortion is a hot topic right now. But, one local author was able to craft a medical thriller, "The Procedure," about an abortion clinic that takes the reader on a journey of mystery and intrigue that will keep readers on the edge of their seats until the end.
“It is not a political book,” said author Terry Brown. “I did not write it to be a political book or to take a stand one way or the other, it is just a story. But it does bring in a lot of aspects surrounding the topic.”
Terry Brown has been a medical group manager for over 30 years.
While that is a pretty tame career, he had an idea for a medical thriller novel in the back of his mind for many years. He wrote the book 12 years ago, but wasn’t able to publish it at that time. Three years ago, he really buckled down and began updating and editing The Procedure, which was released in May. The cover art was designed by local graphic designer, Kendall Russ.
The story is set in Hot Springs and Little Rock, AR.
"The Procedure" tells the story of Marty Smith who is an abortion doctor in Little Rock. It was a job he really never saw himself pursuing but there he was.  He begins a romantic relationship with one of his co-workers, Carla.
Together they discover some questionable activities at the clinic which sets into motion a terrifying ride for the both of them.
Brown consulted with several OB/GYN doctors to make sure all the technical aspects of the book were correct. He spent a lot of time researching what really goes on in an abortion clinic to round out his story.
The name, "The Procedure," was chosen because that is how many tend to refer to the process of abortion in actual clinics.
Big business, politics, the Mafia and the ongoing abortion debate take Marty and Carla along a dangerous path with an ending no one saw coming.
Brown has spent his career working in healthcare as an executive with practices across the spectrum of medicine. His stories are based on personal experiences and people he has met over his 30 plus years in the industry. Though he lived most of his life in Arkansas, he moved to Atlantic Beach nine years ago with his wife of 37 years, Debbie. They enjoy spending time with their children and grandchildren.
Brown said he has received a very positive response to "The Procedure," which is available on Amazon.com as a paperback or Kindle edition.
“If you like thrillers in general or medical thrillers specifically, I think it does a good job with that,” said Brown.
