The City of Jacksonville Beach Planning and Development Department transmitted a proposed amendment to the adopted 2030 Comprehensive Plan to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) for review on April 8, 2020 via Resolution 2057-2020. The proposed text amendment to the adopted 2030 Comprehensive Plan, is to amend the Coastal Management Element, for the purpose of incorporating a new objective and new policies to ensure compliance with the Peril of Flood Statutory Requirements of Florida Statute 163.3178(2)(f). The City received no objections from the Florida DEO or other reviewing agencies on the proposed amendment.  


A Public Hearing on Ordinance 2020-8144, adopting the proposed amendment to the 2030 Comprehensive Plan, is scheduled as follows:


Jacksonville Beach City Council/Adoption Public Hearing


Monday, June 15, 2020 – 6:00 p.m.


Due to the current restrictions and limitations for social distancing and gatherings surrounding the COVID19 crisis, the June 15, 2020, City of Jacksonville Beach, City Council meeting will be conducted in a modified manner. The meeting will be conducted virtually, utilizing Zoom technology and webinar capabilities. The City is providing numerous additional technological options for public attendance and participation in the meeting.


The Governor’s Executive Order Number 20-69, addressing Local Government Public Meetings, states local government bodies may utilize communications media technology (CMT), as provided in section 120.54(5)(b)2., Florida Statutes. On April 6, 2020, the City of Jacksonville Beach City Council further approved at their public meeting the use of CMT and alternative start times to conduct their Council meetings and briefings.


Instructions for public viewing and participation can be viewed on the City’s website at www.jacksonvillebeach.org under News or attached to the meeting agenda. 


A copy of the proposed amendment is available for public inspection at the offices of the Planning and Development Department, 11 North 3rd Street, Jacksonville Beach, Florida Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
