Peggy McEwen, 62, of Atlantic Beach, FL passed away peacefully at 12:20 pm on Tuesday, May 16, 2016 at the McGraw Community Hospice. Peggy, also known as "Peg" or "Muffin", has had an extraordinary life. It was never easy for her, but she overcame more in her one life than a multitude of people combined. Paralyzed at 15 months old, she had many obstacles in life, however, she never let it stop her or define her. She was raised in Ravenna, Ohio and spent a lot of time in the care of the Shriners Hospital in Kentucky. She has hitched hiked from Ohio to California several times, climbed mountains, hang glided from cliffs, finished a multitude of marathons, raised 2 of her own children and 2 grandchildren without the help of a spouse, as well as been "Mom" to anyone who let her. She has inspired many and loved everyone. She battled a multitude of illnesses, poverty, drug addiction, homelessness, abuse, & so much more and up until now, has overcome. She has met her match this time, battling stage 4 Bladder Cancer.
Peggy is survived by her 2 daughters, Sunshine McEwen and Starlyn Smith; 6 grandchildren, Donovan Conner, Mercedes McEwen, Isaiah McEwen, Shawn McEwen, Tatianna McEwen, and Nathaniel Smith; Brothers, Bert (Butch) McEwen, Robert McEwen, Fred McEwen: and sisters, Mary (McEwen) Gann and Ruth (McEwen) Shriver. Along with many nieces and nephews, as well as, countless friends and extended family members. She was predeceased by her mother, Bessie McEwen, her father, Bert McEwen, and brother, Russell McEwen.
In remembrance of Peggy's extraordinary life, a memorial is set to take place, Saturday, June 4th at  4:00pm. Her service will be held at Atlantic Beach Assembly of God in Atlantic Beach, FL. Immediately following the service will be a potluck dinner. If attending, you are encouraged to bring a covered dish.
