MAYES, VIRGINIA A.

Virginia A. Mayes passed away on March 16, 2016 at the age of 58. She was born in Jacksonville and resided here most of her life.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Greene; her son, Christopher Sheffield; father, Roland Mayes; stepmother, Marge Mayes; sister, Diane Beckel; brother-in-law, Tobey Beckel; granddaughter, Kadence Sheffield; step grandsons, Rowan Patrick and Brennin Lester; stepson, Mike John; daughter-in-law, Jessica Wilkerson; step granddaughter, Lauren John and a step grandson on the way. Gloria Green was her closest friend and co-worker.
Virginia was a member of the Florida Trail Association for many years. She helped maintain many miles of Florida trails. She loved hiking and camping in these great outdoors. She also had a great love of dogs and all animals.
Virginia was a great advocate for the handicapped, especially children. She worked most of her life as a school bus driver. For over the last decade, she worked for First Student as a school bus driver for handicapped children. The love and safety of her students was the passion of her life. When it came time to retire, it was the most difficult day of her life. The parents of the students still kept in touch with her after retirement.
She would like for loved ones to donate to our local animal shelters and/or the Special Olympics.
