BLOUNT, DORIS MILLER

Doris Miller Blount, age 90, of Neptune Beach, FL, passed away on May 13, 2016, with her family by her side. She is survived by two daughters Deborah Blount McMillan (Dave), Rebecca Blount Leousis (Alex), and two sons, Michael Lamar Blount, Captain (ret.), CEC, USN (Anne), and David Miller Blount (Nancy). Doris had eleven grandchildren: Jason M. Rooks, Kasia S. Leousis, Jeffrey S. Rooks, Peter E. Leousis, Abigail R. King, Allison M. Blount, Lauren M. Blount, Carolyn E. Blount, Kyle M. Blount, Samantha E. Blount and Michael R. Blount. She also had seven great grandchildren.
Doris was a resident of the beaches area for over 60 years.  Born in Friedens, Pennsylvania, she attended University of Pittsburgh, Johnstown, before qualifying for a March of Dimes Scholarship and completing certification as a Physical Therapist at Duke University. Doris was a member of the third class to graduate from the Physical Therapy program and continued her profession working with the victims of polio in the early 1940s. During WWII Doris worked for Bell Helicopter and then moved to Miami, FL to continue her work in Physical Therapy. In 1952, she married Harvey Lamar Blount and moved to Jacksonville Beach, FL. While raising four children, Doris was member of Beaches United Methodist Church, the Junior Women’s Club and volunteered with the Girls Scouts and civic projects. Doris loved to play bridge and has been a member of a multitude of bridge groups throughout the years.
Doris’s true love and talent was sewing. She made most of her own clothes as well her daughters and granddaughters.  More recently Doris took up knitting and made afghans for her children. 
The family will receive friends and well wishers from 3PM – 6PM, Saturday May 21, 2016 at the family residence.
