Fletcher High opened its 2008 volleyball season with a 3-1 loss to Stanton Prep at home Wednesday.

The first game saw the Blue Devils sprint out to a 9-2 lead en route to a 25-18 victory.

Fletcher rebounded in the second game, taking advantage of several key service points from Megan Arias, to edge Stanton, 25-22.

The third game started with the teams trading points until the Blue Devils put together a six-point run to take a 25-17 victory.

The Senators had difficulty returning serves in the fourth game as Stanton cruised to a 25-14 win.

Fletcher head coach Janice Wish will look for leadership from a core group of seniors, including Arias, Jordan Rix, Kelley Davis, Leah Tucker, Adrienne Winfree, Chelsea Ard, Lauren Mallaney and Erica Tetsworth.

The Senators will look to even their record at Orange Park Tuesday in a 6:30 p.m. varsity start.
